Artist Statement

Art is something that is very personal to me. I’ve grown up being inspired by a lot of different animated movies, with the goal creating something in a similar fashion. I want to make something of similar quality that might inspire others to get into the animation field, along with possibly inspiring them to make something unique of their own.

Although I mainly focus on animation as my medium I also work in different types of mediums such as painting, photography, sculpture, graphic design, and drawing. I like to find ways to stand out when it comes to art as I believe if you aren’t constantly trying to find ways to expand a medium then you’ll only be blending in with the crowd. My goal is to be recognizable with my art style which is something that I’ve felt I’ve been doing a good job with so far as a lot of my peers have recognized and remembered my art throughout the years.

As said before I like to find different ways to expand outside the normal when it comes to what’s known as art mediums. For example, when I make photos, I like to see how I can do something other than take a photo and put it on the wall. I like to draw on the photo, add physical media onto the photo, and do things such as animating onto the photos. These are tactics that I’ve been experimenting with throughout my photography career, and I think it’s helped me stand out from all the other photography students.

Art is a very competitive field as many different people will have unique and visually appealing ideas that you’ll need to compete with. That’s why I decided to make it my goal to find ways to compete against them. Animation will always be my most used medium which means I need to find out how to animate something that will stick out from all the other types of animation. Something that lets people know what I’m all about. I will continue to experiment more and more as I get closer to graduation. So far it’s been an exciting career.
